Green Party Conference
On the weekend of the 6-8th October 8 Babergh Green Councillors attended the Autumn Green Party Conference held at the Brighton Centre.
It was an opportunity for many of our newly elected Councillors to attend for a weekend of seminars, speeches and a lot of networking with other like minded Greens both regional and national.
On Friday night, some of those Councillors attending managed to win a quiz thanks to some help with a member of the German embassy of the team which was what possibly tipped the scales!
What was impressive was unlike many other party conferences was how informal and relaxed generally the conference was, questions could be answered by staff and whether you were the next MP for Brighton or a grass roots activist everyone was made to feel welcome and do something to contribute.
In the evenings there were comedy nights first with comedian Mark Steel on Friday followed by The Treason Show on Saturday with satirical observations of current events that have made the news from bad school concrete to HS2.
For many of us, it was a chance to see and reflect what we've done in Babergh but also look outwardly to what the national party does. It was a realisation that every bit of involvement we make from tackling river pollution to making housing more available or campaigning for better public services all makes worthwhile causes to a greater greener movement, and electing more Councillors or MPs makes that movement grow even stronger.
