“It’s extremely disappointing that the Council has voted to stay with the Cabinet model of governance rather than returning to a more democratic committee model. Important decisions will continue to be made by a small cabal of 10 councillors selected by John Ward, the Council Leader. Meanwhile other democratically elected Councillors remain stuck on the outside looking in, like children at the sweetshop with no pocket money.
It’s hard to see how residents can have faith in a Council when the person they put their cross by has little or no say in many of the decisions that will affect them. We had an opportunity to return to a democratic committee system that, while not perfect, would have given us all a say in how the council is run”.
