About Us
Our story began in 2010 when Conservative councillor Dean Walton, who represented Great Cornard, realised that the party he had joined was not interested in changing things for the better and decided to join the Green Party, stood as a candidate in the County Council elections. His efforts were joined in May 2011, by those of Robert Lindsay, who turned the Brett Ward into a marginal seat, losing to the incumbent by just six votes. In May 2013, Robert stood for the larger county council seat of Cosford, and took the seat in 2017 joining two other Greens on the authority.
In May 2019 The Green Party stood in all but four of the 32 seats across Babergh in the Babergh District Council elections and received the second highest vote share with 23%. We won four seats and so now have four Babergh District Councillors (see our “Councillors section” for details)
So now is the time to help. There are many ways in which you can do so.
The Green Party Political Programme sets out what Greens are in politics to do: to end the system that keeps hurting the environment and all of us who rely on it - and to build a better alternative.
This Programme isn't like other parties' manifestos, it has not been squeezed through focus groups and stripped down according to the latest polling. Instead it has been built from policies proposed and voted on by our members, looking to secure the long term future of the places and people they love.
It's a vision of a better world, and together we can deliver it.
