Babergh Green Party has achieved an amazing historic first today with a record FOUR of its candidates winning seats on the District Council. We have had Green councillors in the past, but between 2015 and 2019 there were no Greens on the Council - until today!

Green councillors in two of Suffolk's local authorities have called for an end to the secrecy of a little known elite body that is making decisions on spending Suffolk tax payers' money. The Suffolk Public Sector Leaders group, which comprises the leaders of all eight local authorities in the county plus the Police and Crime Commissioner, has been meeting in private for several years. Minutes and agendas are not published. It has acquired a pot of about £6 million from a proportion of the business rates collected around the county. In December it announced it was spending an unspecified sum on a private consultancy to draw up a business case for a controversial Sudbury bypass.

Childcare providers are likely to receive an increased hourly funding rate of £4.00, a report from Suffolk County Council’s School Forum has revealed. Providers in Suffolk and nationally have been warning of a crisis within the childcare industry for many months now, with countless businesses struggling to stay afloat due to a disgraceful lack of funding and support.

Citizens Advice charities in Suffolk will face a funding cut of £20 000 next year, despite increasing need for the services they provide. The cuts come as part of a savings plan for 2018-19 drawn up by the Conservative administration at Suffolk County Council. With a budget gap of £26.8m, it is clear that the Council will need to change and adapt in order to continue providing vital services to the residents of Suffolk. However, a cut of £20 000 to such a valuable service is short-sighted

Councillors at Suffolk County Council have unanimously supported a motion calling on the government to radically rethink the way we recycle. The motion was proposed by the Liberal Democrat, Green and Independent Group. During the debate, Green Party Councillor Robert Lindsay also urged the Council to investigate its own plastic policy, citing the extortionate amount of plastic wasted in the canteen at Endeavour House. Chairman Stephen Burroughs and Suffolk County Council’s Interim Chief Executive agreed to examine this concern.
