BABERGH GREEN COUNCILLORS SECURE NEW “BUILDING BACK BETTER” INITIATIVE

index

Babergh Green Councillors have championed a new partnership to improve the relationships between the Council, developers, builders, and local residents which was adopted unanimously by all Councillors at a recent meeting.

New housing, infrastructure improvements and commercial developments are needed but it is important that the disruption and stress they can cause to the daily lives of residents and local communities is minimised.

Councillor Leigh Jamieson, (S.E Cosford), put forward a motion, seconded by Councillor Robert Lindsay, (N.W Cosford),  that recommended Babergh should join the Considerate Constructors Scheme,  a national, not-for-profit, independent organisation founded to raise standards in the construction industry, as a partner organisation.  The Council will require companies seeking planning permission , both residential and commercial, to register their sites with the Scheme and agree to comply with its Code of Considerate Conduct which is designed to encourage best practice beyond statutory requirements. It will also comply with the Code itself in its own construction projects.

Babergh will be only the second district council in the country to join the Scheme.  Councillor Jamieson commented, “The Green Party is committed to community engagement and is very aware of the impact construction has on local communities. We wanted to bring some fresh thinking to resolve difficult issues but also improve building practice so companies that treat people with consideration are recognised. Joining the Considerate Constructors Scheme is a win-win for the Council, developers/builders and residents.”
